A substantial gilt frame built up with layered gesso, its inner edge carved in a rope-twist pattern and the broad outer band worked in a repeating foliate scroll motif with rosette-like accents at intervals. The gilding shows the warm, uneven glow typical of aged gesso work, with soft wear and burnishing along the high points of the relief that reads as honest age rather than damage. Note that the mirror plate itself is absent, leaving an open frame ready to be fitted with new glass or repurposed as a picture surround.
